How to use yarn

Talk to yarn: Use the toggles in the menu to select if you want your child to talk or type. If you’ve chosen voice control, tap the mic to speak, and tap again to finish.

Wait: While we generate the start of the yarn, your child can focus on a short, calming ‘Where’s Wally?’ experience, where they search for an animal or story character.

Listen or read: Use the toggles in the menu to choose if you want your child to receive their yarn as text or audio. (They’ll get a gorgeous illustration either way!)

Choose the narrator: Use the toggles in the menu to choose if you want Diarmid or Fiona to voice your child’s yarn.

Enjoy your library: All yarns are saved in the library, to be relistened to whenever your child wants.

Re-use favourite characters: Once your child has finished a yarn, the main character will form the basis of a ‘Collection’ – marked in the library with a purple banner. Create new yarns in the series by tapping the [+] symbol within the Collection.

Start fresh yarns: To start a yarn with entirely fresh characters, your child can tap [+] on the main Library page outside their Collection.

Use Safari? To avoid annoying pop-ups while spinning, check out our mini guide here to give yarn permission to access your mic.
